I made a mistake I think by asking to switch rooms. Tilson kindly agreed to my request to find a room with a view (where after checking later booking.com clearly showed the room I'd chosen and paid for didn't have one). However the new room had a lot of problems that I won't go into here. I felt I'd already put him to enough trouble with the new room so didn't push the idea of moving back to the original room. In hindsight though it was a big mistake to switch. Lesson learned! The best aspect of this property is kind Mr. Tilson and his charming family. The coffee also was first rate!

Amazing value. For a very cheap price we got a nice room, AC, private bathroom, kitchen, drinking water and a super great breakfast with juices and coffee etc. The hosts went out of their way to make sure we had a nice stay. Easily best place we’ve stayed in our (so far) two month backpacking trip in the Caribbean. ~8 minute walk to the famous Macao beach. 30 second walk to a very nice and cheap restaurant.

Owner is so gentle, he was very kind, helpful, gave excellent service and directions of the surroundings at Macao. Place was really clean, and services were also good. Breakfast was prepared at the moment by the owner, really nice!

Everything was clean.
The rooms are simple, but have good AC.
WI-Fi was good in my room and in the kitchen/dining area.
Breakfast was really good (eggs, vegetables, toasts, fruits, drinks). Coffee was excellent.
There was a fridge in the outdoor kitchen but the temperature was high for fridge. You can keep food there but not long time.
The owner invited me several time for lunch. It was very delicious Dominican food.
George was really nice and always there.
The staff didn't speak a lot of English.
Macao is a beautiful beach with lots of restaurants.
Beach is in walking distance (15-20 min). it's better to go further to the right, there are much smaller waves.
Small shops for basic groceries around.
ATM charged 5-7% to take cash.

We came back to Jorge, Angelica and Tilson for another four days! After being on the road for 10 days around Samana, we looked forward to coming back to this wonderful place. Still the same cozy place, the same great people, and the best vibe! We can't thank you all enough for the hospitality, the help with local information, the conversations, the nights, the dinners, and the breakfasts. Everyone who stays here feel the same. For a couple of days, everyone are the same family. It is truly rare.

Absolutely amazing experience. Jorge went over expectations that we have pleasent stay. Area also really cozy and local. Our luggage were lost during flight. This place made our 3 stay amazing still. Can't recommend enough. Town it self is quiet but really friendly and safe. Dogs at venue are amazing as well.

George and the staff felt like a family! We felt at home right away, and George told us how to get around, what to expect, where to eat, etc. When we asked about sim cards, he offered to drive us and get them right away, which he did. Extremely helpful, since we had just arrived in the country and hadn't gotten our bearings just yet. Every morning we got breakfast in the outdoor kitchen and dining area. The coffee was excellent, and the food was amazing; everything cooked right there by a very friendly woman. We got different tropical fruits like papaya, banana, melon, then followed up by scrambled eggs, toast, milk and juices. Perfect! One morning they made some Colombian breakfast cakes too, made of corn, cheese, and something delicious, fried in a pan. Kept us going the whole day:) They had some clothes lines out back where you could hang your clothes or towels from the beach. It is humid in this country, so eventually you will need to hang dry everything in the sun. Three beautiful and friendly dogs lay around in the shade all day, and greet you with wagging tails every time you pass them:)

Also; The restaurant next door was super nice, with the friendliest staff. The grilled chicken is super good, and you can ask them for any additional spices or sides like you want it. Good rum, cold beer, great people. Everyone from the neighborhood gathered there on the evenings, and had food, drinks and a good time.

These two places located on the same street made our stay in Macao perfect. The overall warm feeling of this place is amazing. 10 minute walk to the beach, where you can rent surfboards, or just lay in the natural shade of the mangroves and palm trees. Small shops for basic groceries or a bottle of rum and a beer. ATM just down the street. Perfect base for a couple of nights if what you need is peace, quiet, beach, and good food and people.The rooms are simple, but have good AC, which is very welcome in the humid and warm climate.

The owner is very helpful and giving many advices to make our stay as good as possible.
We arrived very late in the evening and he took us to the restaurant "Capitan Sully" located right beside the hostel and the owner made us club sandwiches even though kitchen was already closed. We had no money at arrival and the owner said it is not a problem to pay later.
The hostel is basic but very clean, we did not even have problems with bugs or mosquitos.
The area was very quiet, and we felt completely safe here. Owners also living in the object and there were cameras in all public areas for safety.
If you travel by car, you can park right outside on the street which is safe and (dead-end street).
The room was small, linen was clean and soft, bed comfy and there was some small place to hang clothes but no wardrobe. A/C fully working and not noisy.
Bathroom with clean towels and soap available.
Breakfast was served outside in the sitting area from 7 to 10, we got a bowl of fruit, omelet and bread, butter, coffee, and juice. Also, cold drinkable water was available in the fridge whole day.
Payment in cash in Dominican Pesos or USD.

Everything is clean, the wi-fi is good, all your needs are covered and Jorge is an amazing host. He cares about everything and everyone.

A home away from home. Simple, very clean rooms. Don Jorge and Angelica are the best! Breakfast was joyful each morning and delicious.

We had recommendations for booking a car and other activities. The area is great if you want to chill, walk to the beach and just be in a quiet spot. It just has a good, home vibe that you appreciate when traveling.

amazing breakfast , it was like visiting a family. The owners are always ready to help you with anything you need 24/7 even if you don't speak Spanish you will find a way to communicate with no problems :) really wish I could stay longer.

Jorje was very helpful and friendly. A great way to start our trip in the Dominican Republic. Beach was less than 10 minutes walking, good food around the corner.

Angelica and Jorge were very helpful and I felt very welcoming with them. The breakfast is pretty good and the location is near the beach.

The owner is simply the sweetest and greastest person. He‘ll try his best to make you feel home. We had a great time with all from the hostel on New Years Eve. Also they have some cute dogs there.

George was so helpful and kind. he has a very gentle nature and was willing to help even to lend money because the atm was not working.

I felt like being part of a family and got immersed in a truly Dominican experience. The hosts were just incredible! The place is basic, but kept extremely clean. Bed was very comfortable, breakfast simply delicious! The beach is 10 mins away and is stunning. Away from mass tourism, I would highly recommend staying at the hostel. It is also suitable for remote workers!

Amazing and very helpful hosts - don't worry if you don't know Spanish - Jorge will always find a way to explain you everything in details ;) They were also very flexible when it comes to check in time. Delicious breakfast, very clean rooms. The Macao beach is just 7 minutes walk from the hotel. If you want to have a rest from the crowd - Johnnier is highly recommended!

Would recommend for everyone! A bit far away from big cities but thats not a big problem of you have an Uber or etc.

Delicious breakfast included and really friendly and helpful staff. Hostel is really clean and cheery and close to a really good local restaurant, and a short walk to the beach. Jorge is so lovely. I wish I had stayed longer!

George, the host, is absolutely great, he cant speak english, but with Google translator everything works fine, he gives usefull tips and take care of your needs, he organises transfers and other stuff for you, if you want to. Coffee in the morning is nice, George prepares fresh breakfast with fruits. wifi is really good.

Fantastic place to stay. Jorge, your host, is a great guy and is always available to assist you with all your needs. Good breakfast, comfortable bed, quiet AC, good WIFI and many channels on TV if you just want to watch a movie late on in the evening. Restaurant less than 100metres with excellent food reasonably priced. Macao beach just a 10 minute walk and very safe. Restaurant at far end of beach also has excellent seafood dishes.
